German teacher Maruna runs the local pub. It doesn’t look like she’ll ever get married, since there aren’t many suitable men in her small village: the indecisive mayor spends most of his time in a hunter’s blind waiting for his stag, the childishly naive Olin is seen by the others as a harmless village idiot, and roofer Kódl chases after every passing skirt. Maruna’s troubles also include her domineering mother, whom she looks after along with her sister Jaruna. When Jaruna takes the chance to leave for Munich with the aging German Hans, Maruna is stuck in “Nowhere” all alone with her mother and her suitors.
